Read more Route 66 was once the most important route connecting the east and west of the USA. It was built gradually from 1926 until it was replaced by a highway between 1956 and 1984 and officially closed in 1985. Since 1999, it has been protected by law as a symbol of cultural heritage.
Read more For 2019, Route 66 Navigation, the only navigation application designed for historic Route 66, has introduced new subscription rates and pre-paid cards that can be purchased at more than 40 local businesses along Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica. A portion of funds derived from this program supports local businesses, museums and visitor centers on Route 66.
Read more Reconstruction of both lanes in the west direction near Parks, AZ was started on the I40 highway. Closed exit 171 (Pittman Valley Rd) and exit 167 (Garland Prairie) in both directions affects the travelers on Route 66 who have to use part of the I40 motorway in this area. Work will occur on westbound I-40 between Garland Prairie and Pittman Valley roads first, then move to eastbound I-40 in the same area in early summer. Construction will pause for the winter season and is scheduled to resume in spring 2019 for additional paving, bridge and intersection work. Reconstruction is planned in several phases until the end of 2019.
